Beginner Spanish 1-6 FULL
In this 30-week class, we will explore Spanish in a fun, hands-on way, using conversation, games, music, food, and books. The class goal is for students to recognize, know, pronounce, and write the alphabet, numbers, and basic daily vocabulary, be able to carry on brief conversations in Spanish, and be enthusiastic about further language learning. We will be “Exploradores” (Explorers) who visit Spanish-speaking countries, sample their foods, listen to their music, and celebrate some of their festivals and holidays. Guest speakers may also visit the class who are native to the country we are studying. This class touches on both spoken and written Spanish.
We spend some time each week speaking/listening to Spanish as well as on Spanish-speaking culture. Activities may be hands-on, verbal review, worksheets, translating, or games. We will learn the alphabet in Spanish and some basic spelling and vocabulary like numbers, colors, cognates, adjectives, verbs, animals, and much more. For the culture portion, we “visit” one Spanish-speaking country each month, learning fun facts, listening to their music, understanding their culture and traditions, and experiencing their food. The class will learn about and celebrate many different Spanish Holidays, like Dia de Los Muertos and Cinco de Mayo.
Prerequisites: No other Spanish knowledge is needed. Students should be able to write, know their letters, and be at a beginner reading level. All supplies provided.
Class homework requirements: Brief weekly homework: looking up facts for the countries or Holidays we are studying/celebrating, completing a worksheet for reinforcement, listening to or translating (with parental help) a song or poem, and possible online quiz/assignment via Schoology. No more than 1 hour a week.
