Plot Twisters Book Club
A book club should be about diving past the words on the page and into the deeper ocean of the subjects touched on in the book. In this class, students’ minds will be opened to new adventures as we zig-zag through paths of science, culture, history, and more.
This year, we will be reading books from Year A. You are more than welcome to buy the books or check them out from your local library. Most of the reading and projects will be completed in class, but students may have minimal homework given to be finished within the week. This class will be ungraded unless a grade is requested by the parent.
Reluctant readers rarely enjoy reading unless a connection between the reader and the book can be created. The projects given in class will be the bridge connecting students to the books through touch, sight, feelings, and basically immersing the student within the books themselves.
By way of the projects, I will incorporate discussions about vocabulary, styles of writing, and literary elements. It’s like sneaking in the vegetables in my child’s spaghetti. My main class goal this year will be for each student who enters my classroom to leave with a new spark of discovery. Where will the next book take you?
