Science Academy

Discover essential skills that will help young learners on the way to becoming a scientist in this engaging, hands on 30 week, 90 minute class. 

Science Academy introduces and then guides budding scientists through five different branches of science. Laboratory science, investigative science, space science, Earth science, and life science topics will be taught in units with a practical applications and hands on learning. Students will participate in classroom discussion, experiments, and learn to work independently and in groups putting into practice safe and responsible use of all equipment and supplies. Practical projects, each carefully designed to introduce the types of skills required by real-life scientists, help learners pick up the basics of each topic in a fun, tangible way.  Experiments in class, various media presentations, and science career exploration will be part of each unit. Lessons will include creating a pendulum, making a ping pong ball float, dusting for fingerprints, uncovering some fossils, studying the solar system, and more—the sky’s the limit! Grab your goggles and lab coat and get ready to investigate! 

Required materials: 

  • Binder or folder with pockets and notebook paper 

  • Access to Schoology – this is where assignments and grades will be posted. 

Class Homework Requirements: Students will be expected to complete the assigned homework weekly, including vocabulary review and lab reports, as well as unit projects as assigned.
