Myths and Heroes Language Arts
Join us on an epic literary journey as we explore the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan alongside the captivating world of Greek mythology. This engaging language arts class will dive into the adventures of Percy Jackson while studying the timeless myths that inspired the series. Through class discussion, writing assignments, and class activities, students will analyze themes of heroism, loyalty, and friendship, while drawing connections between ancient myths and modern storytelling.
Students will explore the Percy Jackson series as a modern adaptation of Greek mythology examining how the stories of gods, heroes, and mythical creatures are reimagined in a contemporary context. We will delve into the myths of major figures such as Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Athena, and many more. Students will analyze archetypes of heroes, quests, and monsters to gain insight into recurring patterns in storytelling. Additionally, we will investigate how Greek mythology continues to influence modern culture, literature, and media.
Students will also refresh their grammar knowledge, broaden their vocabulary through targeted study, and sharpen their writing skills with five-paragraph essays.
Weekly reading assignments will be the key ingredient in our classroom discussions and activities. Students will be expected to come to class ready to engage in lively discussions.
