Galloping the Globe
Galloping the Globe will make geography come alive for K-3 rd graders! Students will be introduced to the seven continents and a few of the countries within each continent. Along with studying geography, the students will be introduced to various historical figures, holidays, literature, animals, plants, holidays, games, crafts and other topics that are associated with the countries. Each week a different country will be studied by reading timeless classics to modern stories and by looking at maps, and occasional videos from the selected countries. Each week, the students will work on mapping activities; such as, plotting the capital, locating major cities, mountain ranges, rivers, oceans, and other landforms. Students will also sample foods from each of the continents: Israeli salad, eggrolls, coconut rice, European chocolates, and much more!
This class will be a wonderful introduction to world geography and will provide an opportunity to appreciate our great big world and all of the varied cultures and people in it. The many hands-on activities will appeal to our young learners. Each class will begin with puzzles, games, and books for students to enjoy. They will have an opportunity to learn through play and socialization in order to be able to focus during the lesson. Little learners are not expected to sit at a table for the hour and a half class period. They are given plenty of time for movement and play which enhances their ability to learn.
Students are not expected to know how to read or write in this class. Older students will be given leadership opportunities in the class in order to help the younger kids.
