Emily Gourley
I am so excited to be joining The Cordova Tutorial this year. Being a part of educating students has been a lifelong passion of mine. I hold a Bachelor of Science in education from Grand Canyon University and have taught in public schools in and around Fayette County and Memphis. Before that, I homeschooled my two children from 1st grade to Senior year. I feel that experience is important because I have played a part in both worlds of public education and well as homeschooling. I also hold a QAST (Quality Assurance Screening Test) level 1 for the state of Arkansas and am studying to become a nationally certified ASL interpreter. I am also a part of a training program through the Tennessee Department of Education to become a full-time Educational Interpreter.
My husband and I have been married for 31 years. We credit the success of our marriage to our faithful Lord and Savior. We both grew up in this area and have deep roots in our families and church. We attend First Baptist Church in Collierville, where I am part of a team of qualified interpreters to interpret both Sunday School and parts of our main worship service in American Sign Language.
The Lord has made a special place in my heart for the Deaf community and I believe anyone who is passionate about learning ASL will be an asset to that community no matter what path that person takes in the future.
