Books Alive: A

Dive into this 30-week magical world of stories in Books Alive! Designed for kindergarten through third-grade students, this interactive class brings books to life through dynamic read-alouds, engaging dramatizations, and creative hands-on activities. Each session features a carefully selected children’s book that inspires imagination and exploration. Students will step into the shoes of beloved characters, act out scenes, and participate in art or group projects that connect the story.

Through this fun and immersive experience, children will build literacy skills, expand their vocabulary, and develop a love for reading. Perfect for young learners who enjoy storytelling, creativity, and adventure! Books read in this class are usually Caldecott or Newberry winners; some are classics; some are modern. The books will cover a wide range of artistic expressions, beautiful portraiture, hilarious pictures, warm homey drawings, action-packed illustrations. Students will enjoy fantastic literature each week! The class will consist of games, activities, and projects that go along with the book. Holidays will be celebrated in this class as well and are some of the favorite weeks of the year.

This class is on a two-year rotation schedule. New books will be read and enjoyed each year. At the end of the year, students will have the opportunity to bring in their favorite book and share it with the class. Students are not expected to know how to read. The goal of this class is for children to fall in love with great books and to embrace the joy of learning!

Young learners are not expected to sit still for the duration of the class. Many opportunities for play, movement, and socialization are given during the class period. They are expected to sit still during the reading of the story. This allows students to work on their listening skills in order to be able to work on comprehension, vocabulary, and other important reading skills that will help them to eventually become good readers.
