Beyond Five in a Row (Cycle B)
Is your child feeling burned out with the monotony of schoolwork day in and day out? Let’s help them rediscover the richness and joy of learning with Beyond Five in a Row!
Building on the unit study foundation of the Five in a Row curriculum, Beyond Five in a Row is a 30-week, one-and-a-half-hour ungraded class that will continue to foster a love for learning and discovery in older students through entertaining chapter books and inspiring biographies (previous involvement in FIAR is not required).
Using quality literature as our guide, we will explore beyond the story into the science, history, geography, art, and applied math concepts from each book that are sure to intrigue your child. Each week we will read 2-3 chapters in one of the books below. Then, using the topics that present themselves in the literature, we will incorporate cross-curricular activities during our class time.
Get ready to explore life on the prairie in Sarah, Plain and Tall. Then, we'll take trips back into American history to learn about George Washington Carver and Helen Keller. We'll return to the prairie and learn about The Dust Bowl in Skylark. We will transition between chapter books with memorable picture books and poetry to celebrate the seasons and holidays as well.
Each book will take 5-8 weeks to complete. In addition to covering your child’s reading requirement for the year, this class will supplement your child’s curriculum in science, history, geography, vocabulary, and more.

Sarah, Plain and Tall by Patricia MacLachlan
