Auditioned High School Drama
This drama group is for those high schoolers who are ready to take their acting experience to a higher level.
This Advanced Drama class is an audition-only theatre class for those students who have enjoyed and completed at least one year of MS/HS Drama at TCT with a “B” or better. In this intensive course, actors develop a deeper understanding of theater and production from different perspectives and build upon past theatre experiences. Advanced Drama will strengthen and enhance skills in ensemble work/team work, movement, voice, scene and play analysis, character development and emotional truth, improvisational skills, character analysis and performance.
This course will have two distinct focal points throughout the year. The first is designed to increase their level of proficiency on stage. The goal is to develop the student’s ability to play dramatic action honestly and believably, using realistic material as well as self-scripted autobiographical writing. Original work in the form of monologues or short plays may be employed. Course work could also include exercises and improvisations exploring awareness, relaxation, observation, the senses, voice, and physical and emotional life.
The second term will focus on a challenging play to be studied and performed by the class. Students will do studies on the theme of the play, setting and characters. Out-of-class assignments may include required readings from supporting texts and plays. Scene work will focus on breaking down the play, analysis, identity, motivation and action. The goal of this is to get our young actors to explore their craft on a deeper level. This work will culminate in a public performance of the play at the end of the semester.
Admittance into this class is by audition only. (returning auditioned students do NOT have to re-audition) Auditions will take place through the end of March. Please prepare a monologue 1-2 minutes in length for the audition. If interested, please email an audition video to DebbieTCT@gmail.com by March 31, 2024.
