US Government & Civics

(fall semester)

This class will help your student understand the United States government and its political systems.  We will accomplish this using videos, activities, class discussion, and simple in-class projects.

Some of the topics we will cover during the semester:

  • What is a Federal Republic?

  • 3 Branches of Government & the Constitution

  • Navigating media bias and politics in today’s world

  • Understanding the Electoral College

  • Importance of civic responsibility

  • A look at our State Government

We will not hide from controversial topics of discussion. However, it is a classroom, and therefore we will be appropriate and considerate at all times to provide an environment for learning and growth.  We will discuss the material with an awareness of our own political biases, but we will also honor the statement of faith produced by The Cordova Tutorial.

Required materials: There is no required textbook. The tutor will provide a copy of the US Constitution and amendments.

Homework: short weekly assignments for review

*Meets the requirements for the mandatory US Government & Civics/Economics High School credit.
