Advanced Middle School Language Arts: Grades 7-8

This 30 week, 1 ½ hour class is geared to older middle school students, and those with experience writing multiple paragraph essays. This will be a high school prep class. Each class will consist of literature, writing, grammar, vocabulary and spelling.

Literature, and vocabulary will be one component. All vocabulary words will come from reading selections. Students will learn to identify literary devices and techniques with fun (and sometimes hands-on) activities. Writing skills will be expanded through letter writing, and a focus on polishing essays. Essays will include: descriptive, narrative, expository, critical, and persuasive. Grammar will focus on cementing parts of speech, and their correct usage, while spelling will be a review of previously learned concepts.

Items to be supplied by students: 3 ring binder, dividers, pens/pencils, and paper
