Introduction to Middle School Language Arts: Grades 5-7
This 30 week, 1 ½ hour class is geared to students with little writing experience, and those new to middle school. Each class will consist of reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary and spelling.
Reading, writing, and vocabulary will blend seamlessly. Through novels, short stories, poetry and brief articles, students will improve comprehension skills. Writing topics explored with be fables, humor, adventure, science fiction mystery, narrative writing, book reports and non-fiction writing. Vocabulary will be integrated with reading assignments so students can gain knowledge and understanding from context clues. Grammar reinforcement will include hands-on activities to teach parts of speech, punctuation, correct usage, and self-editing. Spelling will concentrate on spelling rules.
Instructor will supply necessary curriculum and reading materials, with the exception of a book for the book report. Supply Fee reflects instructor’s purchase of these items.
