Personal Finance

(Spring semester)

Less than half of high school seniors qualify as financially literate, and more than 7 million borrowers are in default on student loans for college. Students are facing tremendous financial challenges without the basic knowledge needed to thrive in today’s economy.

Foundations in Personal Finance: High School Edition with Dave Ramsey will change the financial future of your student and set them on a path to win with money. They will be empowered, equipped and entertained while building confidence in their own financial decision-making. This class will teach students how to avoid debt, budget with intention, invest, and build wealth so they can give like no one else.

The Foundations in Personal Finance: High School Edition text is a comprehensive, soft-cover consumable. It provides students an opportunity to learn, practice, and apply important personal finance knowledge and skills. The 13 chapters are aligned with the National Standards for Financial Literacy.

Foundations in Personal Finance for curriculum comes with access to The Ramsey Classroom portal. Students will be assigned articles, videos and other activities to complete at home. In class, we will watch videos but also engage in discussion and complete projects to enable your student to put all that we are learning into practical, real-life application.

Foundations in Personal Finance emphasizes life application while teaching money principles that will change your students’ lives forever. They will learn how to pay cash for their first car, graduate from college debt-free, give in generous and meaningful ways and more!’

Instructor is also adding several other financial advisors and influencers information to the course. Budgeting by paycheck, varying ways to set up sinking funds, online savings account, etc. Books will be recommended to expand and enrich our finance knowledge.

Personal Finance is a required class to graduate in the state of Tennessee. This is a ½ high school credit for the personal finance requirement.

Class Homework requirements: This class has weekly homework. Schoology is used to submit some homework assignments. Students need access to Schoology and the internet at home.
