American Government

(fall semester)

This class will help your student understand the United States government and its political systems.  We will accomplish this using videos, activities, class discussion, guest speakers, and simple in-class projects.

Some of the topics we will cover during the semester:

  • What is a Federal Republic?

  • 3 Branches of Government & the Constitution

  • Navigating media bias and politics in today’s world

  • Understanding the Electoral College (or trying to!)

  • Importance of civic responsibility

  • A look at our State Government

We will not hide from controversial topics of discussion. However, it is a classroom and therefore, we will be appropriate and considerate at all times to allow for learning and growth.  ALL material and/or speakers of a political nature will not push a specific agenda, but help to present a real-world perspective.

Required materials: There is no required textbook. The tutor will provide a copy of the US Constitution and amendments.

Homework: short weekly assignments for review

*Meets the requirements for the mandatory American Government/Economics High School credit.
