Introduction to Middle School Language Arts: Grades 5-6
This 30 week, 1 ½ hour class is geared to younger middle school students. Each class will consist of reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary and spelling.
Reading and writing will blend seamlessly. Through novels, short stories, poetry and brief articles, students will improve comprehension skills and have examples for writing assignments. Writing topics explored with be fiction, nonfiction, poetry, short reports, 5-paragraph essays, and self-editing. Grammar reinforcement will include hands-on activities to teach parts of speech, punctuation, and correct usage. Vocabulary and spelling will blend to teach root word, prefixes and suffixes. There will be a weekly test combining spelling and vocabulary, along with a reinforcement workbook.
Instructor will supply necessary curriculum and reading materials, with the exception of a mystery and a biography book. Supply Fee reflects instructor’s purchase of these items.
