World History
Exploring World History by Notgrass is a comprehensive course that takes students on an engaging journey through world history from Creation to the present day. Students will explore major civilizations, significant events, influential figures, and cultural developments that have shaped the world. The course consists of 30 chronological units, each designed to provide a clear understanding of historical events through narrative lessons and original documents and speeches.
In this 30-week class for grades 9-12, students will have the opportunity to watch videos, complete projects, participate in group activities, and engage in discussion as we examine the history of our world through the lens of Christianity.
Each week, students will read one unit from Exploring World History Volumes 1-2, along with additional primary source materials from the companion text, In Their Words. Students will also complete lesson review questions, unit quizzes, and comprehensive exams. Each semester, we will read at least one literary selection from the list below during class. More selections will be read as time allows.
We will NOT read all of these books, and students do NOT have to buy the books unless they want to follow along in class.
Units 3-5: The Cat of Bubastes (G. A. Henty)
Unit 8: The Art of War (Sun Tzu)
Unit 10: Julius Caesar (William Shakespeare)
Units 13-14: The Imitation of Christ (Thomas à Kempis)
Units 16-18: Here I Stand (Roland Bainton)
