The Basics of Grammar
Welcome to The Basics of Grammar! This new class is designed to help upper elementary learners gain a more solid understanding of Grammar before they head into the challenges of middle school and high school writing. This class will have large group instruction, interactive learning, worksheet materials, videos, games, and more integrated into the lessons as the students learn parts of speech, simple punctuation, capitalization, basic sentence structure, and other grammatical basics.
This is a graded class and can be used as the Grammar portion of your student’s Language Arts requirement. The goal of this class is to help students connect with grammar and language in a memorable way. Music, games, and puzzles will help elevate the classroom instruction and the Grammar basics will be taught using the 4th Grade Easy Grammar curriculum. In Easy Grammar, concepts are taught in individual units, beginning with prepositions. Using this approach, sentences are stripped to basics, enabling students to more easily identify the parts of speech and to build upon that as the units progress.
Prerequisites: The student needs to be able to read and write simple text. This class will include written work in the graded material.
Homework requirements: Students will have written assignments in the Easy Grammar workbook weekly, as well as some sentence building and simple writing assignments as the class progresses throughout the school year.
