Come fly across the country through virtual field trips and learn about our great nation state by state. Geography includes the study both the physical features of the earth and the people of a region and their culture. The United States is home to some of the world’s most beautiful landscapes, fascinating people, and delicious food which makes the USA a fun place to explore! The giant redwood trees in California, the great western national parks, the Grand Canyon, New York City, the white sands beaches of Florida, Area 51, the Liberty Bell…there is so much interesting landscape! New Englanders are very different from Texans. Living in the mountains in Colorado is quite different than living in sweltering, landlocked west Tennessee. Each state has it’s own unique culture, history, everyday and famous people, landforms, attractions, animals, and plants. Map skills, topography, and physical geography will be covered as well. To keep them actively engaged, students will help teach the class by doing state reports and presenting them during class on a rotating basis.
*Please note that food will be served in this class* Just as each state has it’s own culture, they each have their own flavor. Thank you North Carolina for Krispy Kreme! Massachusetts graced us with chocolate chip cookies. Oregon gave us tater tots, Minnesota handed over corn dogs, Illinois blessed us with brownies, and California threw in some ranch dressing. Food won’t be served every week but when there is yummy option for a state we will definitely try it out! I will accommodate food allergies as much as possible but sometimes it won’t be possible.
Class Homework requirements: 2-4 sheets of homework each week will help keep the learning going at home.
Supply fee: $75
Tutor: Rená Gammon
COVID-19 Contingency Plan:
In the event that the COVID-19 pandemic affects our ability to meet in person in a classroom for the 2020-21 school year, I will make the following adjustments to this class.
*Tutor will submit youtube videos to view and weekly projects, experiments, or work.
*Tutor and students will meet during the last 30 minutes of the scheduled class time for students to share their work with me and other students via video conferencing platform.
Our plan is to meet in person as soon as it is feasible. We may begin OR cancel CLASSROOM meetings at any point during the school year as the COVID-19 situation changes. Our goal is to keep your family safe and engaged during this unprecedented time.
