Listless to Lively Physical Education

This 30 week, 90 minute after lunch class will help burn through that restless, (sometimes full on hyper) mid-afternoon energy.  Kids will run, romp and play!  These lucky homeschoolers will get the best of that “gym class” experience with push ups, crunches, stretching, lay up drills, and relay runs minus the rope climb and stinky locker room.  Kick ball, four square, and three legged races will encourage a little friendly competition and lots of movement!

One of my favorite things about homeschool kids is their ability to be comfortable with people of all ages.  This class with be an ‘exercise’ in that as well.  Students from kindergarten to 6th grade are invited to participate in Phys. Ed.  Additionally, this will be a great opportunity for students to practice body awareness as they interact with students of different sizes and strengths.  And as with all we do, we will practice fair play and kindness.

Some of the older class participants will be occasionally invited to be stewards to the younger students.  Stewards will be in a leadership role and help younger students with more difficult exercises and demonstrate proper form and the principles of fair play.  If your child is interested in this role, please have them inform me upon registration.

Class will take place in the gym, or outside when weather permitting.  (Students may want a wind breaker or light jacket on cool days as we will always try to get outdoors for a little while, even on cold days, so long as it isn’t wet.)

Students should dress accordingly and wear (or bring with them to change into) proper footwear for running.

COVID-19 Contingency Plan:
In the event that the COVID-19 pandemic affects our ability to meet in person in a classroom for the 2020-21 school year, I will make the following adjustments to this class. Tutor and students will meet at the scheduled class time via a video chat service. Assignments can be submitted electronically, and feedback will be provided electronically.  Group projects and group collaboration will be encouraged via online methods, but adjustments will be made as needed.  Our goal is to meet in person as soon as it is feasible. We may begin classroom meetings at any point during the school year as the COVID-19 situation resolves.
