This 30 week 1.5 hour photography class will teach you all the basic elements of creating a correctly exposed photograph. You will learn the entire process of being a photographer from the beginning to the end. We will study how to use a digital single-lens reflex camera, how to choose the perfect lens, and then how to take a good picture with your DSLR. Then, we will transfer that image to an editing software used by professionals such as Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop. After learning to edit your composition to your preference, you will order and compare prints of your image on different mediums and through different online and local print labs. I will guide you through both the technical and artistic approaches to taking a properly exposed image. You will learn the basic rules of photographic composition and explore ways of adding your own artistic flare to your images as well. You will create projects that help practice these basic elements in fun and exciting ways.
There will be three to four opportunities for field trips throughout the year to practice your learned photography skills held on Fridays and Saturdays. These will be posted at the beginning of the Fall semester. Examples of locations of these field trips are the following: Animals and wildlife photography at the Memphis Zoo, nature photography at Shelby Farms and Memphis Botanic Gardens, and portrait photography with young children at Advent Presbyterian Church.
We will cover many different types of basic photography elements during this class, but we will tackle it together one step at a time and have a lot of fun along the way.
Class homework requirements: This class will use simple assignments each week to practice each aspect of photography. Time estimated is 30 to 45 minutes a week, but as with anything, the more you practice the better you will understand the skill.

COVID-19 Contingency Plan:
In the event that the COVID-19 pandemic affects our ability to meet in person in a classroom for the 2020-21 school year, I will make the following adjustments to this class.
*Tutor will submit youtube videos to view and complete for the weekly project.
*Tutor and students will meet during the last 30 minutes of the scheduled class time for questions, direction and input via video conferencing platform.
Our plan is to meet in person as soon as it is feasible. We may begin OR cancel CLASSROOM meetings at any point during the school year as the COVID-19 situation changes. Our goal is to keep your family safe and engaged during this unprecedented time.
