Each quarter of this 30-week class will focus on one of the four main types of essays-narrative, descriptive, expository, and persuasive/argumentative. There will be some remedial strategies interspersed throughout the class to ensure each child is successful. We will cover sentence elements, paragraph structure, and short essay composure during this time. Grammar, vocabulary, and spelling will also be included as necessary building blocks. Some of the reading material for this class will overlap for the students in my Creative Writing and World Wars classes to create more time for investigation and discovery of specific topics versus jumping all over between completely new ones. This overlap will facilitate a more classical learning approach. I have recently joined TCT as a tutor, and am still working to develop my curriculum and lesson plans. This course description will be updated as soon as possible to reflect a more detailed outline of the course and required study materials.

In the event that the COVID-19 pandemic affects our ability to meet in person in a classroom for the 2021-22 school year, I will make the following adjustments to this class. Tutor and students will meet at the scheduled class time via a video chat service. Assignments can be submitted electronically, and feedback will be provided electronically. Our goal is to meet in person as soon as it is feasible. We may begin classroom meetings at any point during the school year as the COVID-19 situation resolves.
