Have you ever wanted to be in a play but didn’t know where to start? Is there an actor inside of you just dying to get out? Join Acting Coach and director, René Cave, in auditioning and creating a one act show each semester. She has been connecting with, teaching, and directing middle schoolers for over 20 years. The shows will be chosen based on the individual skills and makeup of the students enrolled. This class will begin with exercises to develop community and establish trust. After we get to know each other, we will begin the audition process to cast the shows. Coach Cave will use improvisational exercises and acting games to determine the acting levels enrolled in the class. Every actor has different strength and type. We will explore each of these to determine who would be best for each character in the shows chosen. We will discover the entire process of building a show including show choice, auditions, learning theatre lingo, building character, blocking, stage managing, choosing costumes, creating scenery and props, and much more. In this class, you will also learn helpful life skills such as organization, memorization, focus, listening, respect for others, and effective communication with peers. For this class, you will be required memorize lines and meet deadlines. It is best to wear comfortable clothing to class up until dress rehearsals. Closer to show dates, you may be called to additional rehearsals that will be mandatory. Costumes are not included in this class fee but for the most part may be found in your closet at home. Class fee will be used to secure play rights and script costs. If you are on the shy side but would love to give this a try, the Acting UP class would be a great addition to this class if you can fit it into your schedule.
