Charts, Tables, & Graphs, Oh My! Data Assessment and Interpretation

This 30-week class will equip the students with the skills necessary for test taking: organizing, interpreting, analyzing, and assessing data presented across a variety of subjects. The ACT and other standardized testing often present data through a series of questions involving charts, graphs, tables, and the goal will be to use their reading comprehension and basic math skills to help them tackle these types of questions. While the ACT is intended for sophomores and higher, it is never too early to start conditioning the mind to a successful approach to data analysis, critical thinking, and inference. The students will also learn to identify what a question is asking, eliminate distractors, and how to choose the best answer. How many times have we changed an answer from the right one to a wrong one? This class will enable the students to apply concepts learned in their math and language arts classes.  I have recently joined TCT as a tutor, and am still working to develop my curriculum and lesson plans. This course description will be updated as soon as possible to reflect a more detailed outline of the course and required study materials.

Please note that this class is for advanced 6th grade through 10th grade students

COVID-19 Contingency Plan:

In the event that the COVID-19 pandemic affects our ability to meet in person in a classroom for the 2021-22 school year, I will make the following adjustments to this class. Tutor and students will meet at the scheduled class time via a video chat service. Assignments can be submitted electronically, and feedback will be provided electronically. Our goal is to meet in person as soon as it is feasible. We may begin classroom meetings at any point during the school year as the COVID-19 situation resolves.
