This 30-week 1.5-hour Yearbook and Newsletter class will cover the creating of a beautiful, image-filled memory book from planning the design to printing the artwork. We will also create, design and produce a monthly newsletter for TCT. Students can participate in either one of these endeavors or both where our overall goal will be to document the 2022-2023 school year of The Cordova Tutorial. Students will learn how to choose a layout and theme for a photobook and school newsletter, what a serif and sans serif font is and how to use them effectively, how to take a picture for a layout chosen, and how to market, sell, and design ads for the yearbook. Additionally, students will conduct interviews with fellow students and teachers to capture the exciting energy of The Cordova Tutorial family and document that through stories and interviews printed artistically in the layout of the yearbook and newsletters.
Students will get a chance to work with a partner or may work alone using a photobook software to create a layout of their choice. Others will learn the principles of layout for the newsletter and how to promote and post online to drive the most traffic to their work. Students will also learn the basics of interviewing, collecting stories, creating content that other students want to read, and editing– just to name a few. Students will learn the basics of photography, cropping images, and learning about pixels and how pixels affect the appearance of printed images. We will also explore the basic elements of graphic design to create stunning ads for 2023 Seniors and businesses placing ads in the yearbook.
