Lego Stop-Motion II

The Fun is Building!  This class builds from the basic stop motion foundations of the MYOM class.  In this 30-week, hands-on class, students will dive deeper into set-building, story and character development while also learning special effects, lighting and camera techniques to create longer-form projects.  Open to students in grades 5-12 with previous lego stop-motion experience (MYOM level 1 graduates are encouraged to enroll). Some Lego minifigs will be supplied and students are encouraged to bring their own (sanitized).

Materials needed:

  • Tablet, Apple or Android smartphone (preferred)
  • Animation software (Stop Motion Studio – $5)
  • Minifigs from home (sanitized)

Class Homework: given on a weekly basis to review lessons learned from class. Semester projects include comedy and action shorts and a feature presentation/showcase at semester end. Solo work projects will be assigned for home, solo and group projects will be done in class or on zoom. Group projects will also give students ability to adapt to changing and different roles (camera, minifig operator).

In the event that the COVID-19 pandemic affects our ability to meet in person in a classroom,  I will make the following adjustments to this class. Teacher and students will meet at the scheduled class time via a video chat service. Assignments can be submitted electronically, and feedback will be provided electronically. Our goal is to meet in person as soon as it is feasible. We may begin classroom meetings at any point during the school year as the COVID-19 situation resolves
