High School Chemistry

Friendly Chemistry is a hands on, fun and non -intimidating way to learn Chemistry. Most class sessions have a game, experiment or hands on method to teach the challenging concepts of chemistry. The chemistry concepts presented in Friendly Chemistry are NOT watered-down. The concepts are just explained in ways that are readily understood by most learners. Coupled with these explanations is a host of teaching aids, labs and games which makes the learning concrete and multi-sensory. Friendly Chemistry is a complete high school-level chemistry course which uses simple language and a multitude of analogies to make learning easy!  Friendly Chemistry utilizes games, activities and lab experiences to make the concepts crystal clear and readily retained!  Parents often comment, “I wish I had had this when I was taking chemistry. Now it all makes so much sense!”

These are the same topics taught in a traditional high school chemistry course but using language and analogies that make it easier to understand. This class can meet the needs of those looking for Chemistry to fulfill their science requirements to graduate high school and also the student who is interested in a science-based career. It is the perfect curriculum for a homeschool tutorial setting!

Topics Covered include:

  • -Atomic Theory
  • -Trends of the Periodic Table of Elements
  • -Quantum Mechanics (Electron Arrangement)
  • -Ion Formation
  • -Compound Formation – Bonding
  • -Avogadro’s Number and the Mole
  • -Calculation of Formula Weights and Percent Composition
  • -Empirical Formulas

COVID-19 Contingency Plan:

In the event that the COVID-19 pandemic affects our ability to meet in person in a classroom for the 2020-21 school year, I will make the following adjustments to this class. Tutor and students will meet at the scheduled class time via a video chat service. Assignments can be submitted electronically, and feedback will be provided electronically.

Our goal is to meet in person as soon as it is feasible. We may begin OR cancel CLASSROOM meetings at any point during the school year as the COVID-19 situation changes.  Our goal is to keep your family safe and engaged during this unprecedented time.
