This drama group is for those high schoolers who are ready to take their acting experience to a higher level.
This Advanced Drama class is an audition-only theatre class for those students who have enjoyed and completed at least one year of MS/HS Drama at TCT with a “B” or better. In this intensive course, actors develop a deeper understanding of theater and production from different perspectives and build upon past theatre experiences. Advanced Drama will strengthen and enhance skills in ensemble work/team work, movement, voice, scene and play analysis, character development and emotional truth, improvisational skills, character analysis and performance.
This course will have two distinct focal projects throughout the year. The first is designed to develop the student’s ability to play dramatic action honestly and believably, using realistic material as well as self-scripted autobiographical writing. Our course work will include exercises and improvisations exploring awareness, relaxation, observation, the senses, voice, and physical and emotional life. We will work in preparation of a monologue. A commitment to regular journal writing in the form of an Observation Notebook will be expected. This writing will lead to original monologues that will be performed at the end of the fall semester.
The second term will focus on a challenging play to be studied and performed by the class. Students will do studies on the theme of the play, setting and characters. Out-of-class assignments may include required readings from supporting texts and plays. Scene work will focus on breaking down the play, analysis, identity, motivation and action. The goal of this is to get our young actors to explore their craft on a deeper level. This work will culminate in a public performance of the play at the end of the semester.
Admittance into this class is by audition only. Auditions will take place towards the end of March. Please prepare a monologue 1-2 minutes in length for the audition. If interested, please email DebbieTCT@gmail.com by March 16, 2020 to set up an audition time.

COVID-19 Contingency Plan:
In the event that the COVID-19 pandemic affects our ability to meet in person in a classroom for the 2020-21 school year, I will make the following adjustments to this class.
Tutor and students will meet at the scheduled class time via a video chat service. Class discussion and assignments regarding monologue projects will be held during this time. Written assignments can be submitted electronically, and personal feedback will be provided in the same manner. Script development will also occur during online meetings, as well as line readings. Group projects and group collaboration will be encouraged via online methods, but adjustments will be made as needed.
Our plan is to meet in person as soon as it is feasible. We may begin OR cancel CLASSROOM meetings at any point during the school year as the COVID-19 situation changes. Our goal is to keep family safe and engaged during this unprecedented time.
