What was life like when your parents were born? Your grandparents? Your great grandparents? What was their life like? What do they remember the most about growing up, raising their family and living and working in their lifetime? The 20th Century was a time of enormous technological and cultural advances. Our country became connected to the world in greater ways. In this class, students will begin their study of the 20th Century in a personal way by investigating their own family timeline. In this 30 week 1.5 hour class, students will be encouraged to research their family ancestry to complete a personal history timeline and we will build around it with people and events from the 20th Century. The highs and lows of each generation, the advancements and setbacks, the Arts, Sports, Fashion and Changing Social Customs, Politics, Technology and Pop Culture are just a few of the topics we will explore in each decade. We will tour each decade with the use of class discussion and projects, Music and Art from the specific periods, and even some food tasting. There will be a considerable amount of literature assigned to bring each decade to life as well as video in class and at home. Our timeline will lead us through the Great Wars, the Depression, the Fabulous 50’s, the Space Race, the Vietnam War and conflict in the Middle East all the way to the sobering events of 9-11. We will highlight the men and women who have made our country great and discuss the challenges of the future generations. This promises to be a fun filled trip through the 20th Century. Join us!
Class Homework Requirements: Moderate homework consisting of outside reading, written work/worksheets, media viewing. Quizzes and tests on Schoology will also be frequent though not weekly. Students will also give a presentation each semester in the format of their choice.

COVID-19 Contingency Plan
In the event that the COVID-19 pandemic affects our ability to meet in person in a
classroom for the 2020-21 school year, I will make the following adjustments to
*Tutor will submit youtube videos to view and complete for the weekly project.
These will be available on the assigned class day for discussion and work for the
*Tutor and students will meet during the last 30 minutes of the scheduled class
time for questions, cooperative activities, direction and input via video
*We will utilize Schoology to upload any notes or classwork needed to complete
*Tutor agrees to one on one Facetime/phone call sessions in the evenings by
appointment for any student that needs additional support or help.
Our plan is to meet in person as soon as it is feasible. We may begin OR cancel
CLASSROOM meetings at any point during the school year as the COVID-19
