The Science of Cooking Class B

This yummy 30 week 1 ½ hour class will focus on the Science of Cooking.  You see Cooking is science at work.  There are so many scientific concepts and methods at work in the kitchen every day.  Chemical reactions, oxidation, emulsion, catalysis’s, and diffusion are only some of the things that happen in a busy kitchen on a daily basis.  To know the science is the beginning of becoming really good chief.  Your budding Chief will enjoy hands on cooking experiences from boiling water to creating complete nitrous and delicious meals.  They will become confident in experimenting with the skills they learn in the class. Everyone is going to enjoy the homework for this class as your student will be using the concepts they learned at home.  We will be teaching the students culinary skills and helping them to learn how to create and enjoy foods that are both tasty and healthy.  We will cover the science of food preservation, preparation, and proper cooking tech, storing and clean up.

The Science of Cooking B class is going to cover and or review the same basic kitchen skills but we will be exploring all new and challenging food preparations.  As always we will get to sample our hard work and review procedures what worked and what didn’t.  In the kitchen we always learn by doing.  A mistake can be next year’s greatest recipe!

You do not need to have taken The Science of Cooking A to attend this class.  If you have already taken cooking with us this class will be all new challenges.

Class Homework requirements: There will be weekly cooking assignments to repeat what was learned in class.

COVID-19 Contingency Plan:

In the event that the COVID-19 pandemic affects our ability to meet in person in a classroom for the 2020-21 school year, the following adjustments will be made to The Science of Cooking class. You, the parent, will be given the choice to continue this class in an online format, or to opt out of classes that do not meet in person. The online format will include live video streaming with cooking instruction and interaction with the students. Students can participate, watch and or view the video, that will be recorded, at a convenient time for them.  Parents are welcome to join their children in the kitchen during the class if they choose.  If you opt out of online classes, you will be reimbursed for any tuition already paid for these classes. Our goal is to meet in person as soon as it is feasible. We may begin classroom meetings at any point during the school year as the COVID-19 situation resolves.
