Early Grammar Basics
Grammar is the study of how words are put together to make language. These basics are fundamental to the English language, both written and spoken. This NEW Early Elementary class is designed to start early learners off on the right foot when it comes to language. English doesn’t have to be boring; The English language is vast and having the ability to speak and write with integrity strengthens your child's voice in the world. This class will have large group instruction, interactive learning, worksheet materials, games, and other fun learning styles integrated into each lesson as the students learn parts of speech, simple punctuation, capitalization, sentence structure, and other grammatical basics.
This is a graded class and can be used as your Grammar portion of English. The goal of this class is to help the students connect with language. For example, verbs are “doing” words, so there will be activity included when verbs are the subject matter. This is a multi-sensory approach to help children learn a specific concept. They are hearing, seeing, and doing the “verb”. The goal will be for each student to progress in their writing skills as the year goes on. We will start with parts of speech and building simple sentences, but we will move to building better sentences as we study conjunctions, adjectives, and adverbs.
Prerequisites: The student needs to be able to read and write simple text. This class will include written work in the graded material.
Class Homework requirements: Some homework. There will be worksheets that come home for reinforcement of the concept taught that week. No more than .5-1 hour of homework weekly.
