Creative Writing IEW
(Level A)  All Things Fun & Fascinating

This 30 week 1-1/2 hour class is built on the Institute for Excellence in Writing, Teaching Writing: Structure and Style. The majority of assignments will be from the IEW curriculum. However, these will also be alternated with assignments with more flexibility and freedom, including poetry, journalism writing, speech writing, and brainstorming.

Students will learn to take notes, summarize narrative stories, write 3 paragraph stories, write from pictures, and compose creative essays from the brain. This approach provides a structured approach to unleashing creativity and building communication skills.

The class includes a weekly writing lab with peer feedback and teacher review. Students will present their papers and gain experience in oral presentation skills. There will be weekly writing assignments.

(Level A)  Basics of Structure and Style

This 30 week 1-1/2 hour class is built on the Institute for Excellence in Writing, Teaching Writing: Structure and Style

Students will learn to take notes, summarize narrative stories, write 3 paragraph stories, write from pictures, and compose creative essays from the brain. This class provides a structured approach to unleashing creativity and building communication skills. IEW  builds a strong foundation without overwhelming students or doing too much too fast. Using a variety of sources, this course will help your child develop writing skills that will last a lifetime.

Students will present their papers and gain experience in oral presentation skills. There will be weekly writing assignments. Papers must be typed – access to a computer and printer is mandatory.

Creative Writing IEW
(Level B) Advanced

This 30 week 1-1/2 hour class is built on the Institute for Excellence in Writing curriculum, Following Narnia Volume 1: The Lion’s Song.

Students will read the first three novels in The Chronicles of Narnia while learning to take notes, summarize narrative stories, write three-paragraph stories, and compose essays. This IEW approach provides a structured way to unleash creativity and build communication skills.

The class includes a weekly writing lab with peer feedback and teacher review. Students will present their papers and gain experience in oral presentation skills. There will be weekly writing assignments. 

**Completion of a Level A IEW class is required.
