Computer Programming (6th-8th)
In this 30-week class, we will learn the basics of computer programming. We will begin with computational thinking, then progress to write code using the Java programming language, which is an industry standard. Students will do labs in class and at-home programming assignments. Students will finish the year by creating a computer game that they can share with friends. A laptop to bring to class is recommended but not required, but students will need access to a computer at home with Windows 7 or more recent and capable of running the required software (a very limited number of laptops are available for use in class on a first-come, first-served basis.) The software & textbook are provided.
Prerequisite: This class teaches programming and assumes students already have a comfort level of using a computer. Students must have basic skills to navigate a computer, or they may need the Computer Essentials class first. See tutor for details.
